I like playing sports, but with my skill level there are certain ones that I can master and certain ones that I fail at.
One that I can master is basketball. With my height of 5′ 4″, if a kid is guarding me I can shoot over their hands and make it in. I’m not that good, but size made up for my skill. When I started though, that was a whole other story.
I had bad posture, bad ball handle, and I couldn’t make even 1 shot. I wanted to quit the class that my dad put me in and switch to full-time swimming and that did happen! After a while, I returned to basketball occasionally at Brookmill P. S. but stopped after I got a handful of injuries and nosebleeds. Finally, I started playing again when our family moved to Markham.
When I started competing against my friends, I thought that it would be injury free, and I was right! Well, actually it was for me, but not my glasses. Currently, my glasses have been superglued together 5 times and the lenses scratched about 10 times. I guess you can infer what happened.
Badminton is also one that I like. This time it’s about my arm. If I get an opportunity, I can smash an unreturnable shuttlecock. I’m not that good, but I am average, thanks to some good friends and my dad.
I started playing badminton at the age of… well I was pretty young. I started in gym class at school, and eventually started playing for fun. I wasn’t good, but with help from my best friends at school, I learned how to serve and hit the shuttlecock. My dad tutored me even more, and that’s how I worked my way up to becoming the player I am today.
One time at a tournament, I was playing doubles with my partner and I was being targeted. I missed a lot but we only lost by 3 points. When the match was finished, he started crying and blaming me for losing. Hello? I’m being targeted!
Some sports that I suck at are soccer and volleyball.
Soccer was one of my favourite sports, but interestingly enough after FIFA 2022 I lost interest. All you really do is kick the ball around and try to score. There is no sophistication or challenge when you play for fun.
Volleyball was never one of my favourites, but for some reason I tried out for the volleyball team. I made it and failed miserably. That was the end of volleyball for me.
So that’s about it for “Sports”.
