On June 28th, 2024, 14 people went to Boston, Massachusetts. 1 of those people was me, so here I am, telling my story.
June 28th, 2024:
We got out of the house to officially start the journey of 12 hours. It was split into 2 parts; Markham to Albany, and Albany to Boston. This first leg would take 7 hrs and 49 minutes approximately. I was excited because I had candy and The Complete Sherlock Holmes, but I was in for an unpleasant surprise.
Since we have a Tesla Model Y with plenty of legroom, it was really annoying when we rented a Toyota CHR with limited legroom and (sorry Toyota but I have to say this) limited comfort. I mean, what do you expect? Think about it. A Tesla compared to a Toyota.
For 4 hours we drove to the border of through Kingston. At about 4:30pm we got to the border and officially got into the U.S.A. One downside was that everything was in Miles and Feet and Inches and what not of that non-metric stuff. So instead of going 65mph(108kph), we decided to go 150kph. Totally not speeding.
One thing I should probably have mentioned at the start is that my friends were coming with me on this trip. Another reason I was excited for this trip was because they were coming, and if they weren’t I would have probably not wanted to go. For 5 hours we drove to Albany and arrived at our hotel. It was now that I met my friends and we had a massive pillow fight in their room.
After a couple of hours, we all got tired and retired to our own rooms. After a short snack, we all headed to bed and slept.
June 29th, 2024:
After waking up for the day and a quick breakfast, we headed out of our hotel and to Boston. It was about a 4hr and 46 minute drive, and during that we had 5 stopovers. This time I was in my friends car, and it got really loud and wild.
With limited room in the back back seat, we got really cranky and one of my friends (he’s 5) actually started crying. At one of the stopovers I got some Trident and this Starbucks drink called Pineapple Passionfruit. It was crazy good and I chugged it in about 10 minutes.
We went to visit some places in Boston, like MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), and it was a sprawling and massive campus. For example, the University was half an hour away from a dorm, to give you a mental picture. We also went to the MIT museum.
In the museum, there were different sections like computers and genetics. The computers section had a AI companion. There was also a computer from the 1800s, a Minecraft replica of the campus, and so much more.
In the genetics section, they showed how to make pink chickens and the had a real merperson sculpture according to mythology. They also had a plan about making human babies in pigs. The genetics section had weird stuff like that.
In general, MIT was really fun and I enjoyed a lot. We did try to go to Harvard University, but parking was impossible so we just left.
After that, we went to our hotel, the Hamilton Inn, where we had another massive pillow fight and got tired. Then we went to bed and slept again.
June 30, 2024:
I woke up to an American sun glaring down at me. It was 27 degrees celsius and hot. Waking up at 6am, I felt really hungry and immediately brushed and went for breakfast. Breakfast at the Hamilton Inn, our hotel, was simple; there were donuts, cereal, juices, bagels and bread.
Being the first one up in my family, I was free to eat whatever I wanted so I took a sugar dusted donut and some Frosted Flakes. They were good but not amazing, basically enough to be enjoyable. After everyone got out of bed and got ready, we headed out to a park right next to the Atlantic.
Since it was rainy with high speed wind gusts at that moment (yes, the weather has mood swings as well, you’ll never know when it’ll suddenly become rainy), the surface of the ocean, as you can imagine, was wild. There were 3-4 foot high waves and the mist when they crashed onto the rocks of the shore were higher than you can imagine. The wind whipped around all of us, and my hair, which by the way is really long, went crazy. We didn’t stay outside for long for 2 reasons: One, the rain and wind and two, the awful smell of fish.
Since we couldn’t stay outside, we decided to take the interior tour. And interior as in the car. There was an Atlantic village that looked like something from the medieval times, and there were mansions that looked more like whole castles. I was in awe at the enormously massive houses that also dominated the area. If you went there and then to billionaires row, I can guarantee you, those houses that I described will for sure be bigger.
This tour took up most of the day, and we also retired early, since the next day we were going to wake up at 5am to get to our next hotel in Buffalo, so this was the end of touring Boston but not the end of the trip.
In all, the driving took a lot of time, so by the time we slept it was 9 or 10pm, which may not sound like early to you, but considering the times that we slept at the previous days, it was really early.
Once we slept, it was a straight stretch to July 1st.
July 1st, 2024:
Waking up at 5am is not a pleasant experience, but for me at this time, it was necessary to do this. We had our whole day planned out for us, and it included swimming, pizza, fireworks, and a whole buttload of time to get to our new hotel. So after checking out and heading out of the Hamilton Inn, we started off for Buffalo and Niagara Falls.
Just in case you didn’t know, Buffalo is a good 8 hours away from Boston. So for 8 hours or more, we drove and drove, past police, past rest stops and past whole states, we reached the Bay Leaf, a restaurant in Buffalo, New York State. To be honest, it was not that good in terms of size and (ahem) amenities like bathrooms. Their bathrooms were in the slaughtering area!
On the other hand, their food was heavenly. Biryani with butter chicken? Yes, gimme gimme gimme. They also had different types of kulfis (Yogurt ice cream on a popsicle stick) and overall the experience was amazing.
After we inhaled all of our food, we set out for our 4 star hotel; the Quality Hotel or Inn (whichever you prefer). A 45 minute drive was nothing compared to our previous 8 hours. So off we went to our hotel in Niagara Falls.
After arriving, we immediately went to our rooms and my friends and I started fighting over who got which bed. I won and got the windowsill bed, though it wouldn’t have mattered as they all fell asleep early.
After we did that, we started watching some Rick and Morty, and even though it was inappropriate as they recreated Pearl Harbor and nearly did 9/11, our parents didn’t care. Finally, it was time for swimming. Every kid in our group ran into the pool, even though it was against the rules (who likes them anyways?) and dangerous (none of us cared).
We flipped, dived, jumped, and splashed each other for 3 hours, and then it was time for the fireworks.
At night, we headed to the fallside park for some sightseeing of Canada. The fireworks started at 10pm, and there were hearts, stars, fizzes, and so much more! There was red, blue, purple, yellow, white, and pink as well!
I was sad that the works were over, but our journey sure wasn’t.
July 2nd, 2024:
I woke up feeling sad. Our trip ended today, and it was very enjoyable. After a quick breakfast and packing, we headed out for the 3 hour journey to Markham. It was the last time I would see my friends on this trip. There isn’t much to say about this trip. After checking out of our hotel, we got into the CHR and crossed the border by Rainbow Bridge.
After that, our drive was uneventful. We drove and drove until we got home. It was a sunny day with no clouds, and it was fairly warm as well! Once we got home, I unwound by watching some YouTube and continued with my daily life.
